Our Founder
Ethiraj School, started in 1993 was born out of the dream and vision of Shri. V.L. Ethiraj, an eminent lawyer and renowned philanthropist. It was established with a commitment to provide quality education to women with a strong emphasis on values and tradition and with the singular mission of empowering women.
Shri. V.L. Ethiraj was born on 18th July 1890, in a very respectable and affluent family. His father Thiru. Lakshmana Swamy Mudaliar, was a well-known philanthropist of Thottapalayam village, in Vellore District. Shri. V.L. Ethiraj graduated from Presidency College, Chennai. He was tutored by Dr.Sarvapalli Radhakrishnan, the first President of the Republic of India. A magnanimous and a wealthy barrister, he took his legal degree from the University of Dublin and on his return to India joined The Madras Bar. Within a short period, he built up a lucrative practice by his efficiency and was the first Indian to be appointed as Crown Prosecutor by the British Government.

I convey my heartiest congratulations and felicitations to the
School Committee Members Mr. S Prakash, Mr. T.S. Udaya Shankar
& Mrs. Sangameswari Pattabiraman and also to Mrs. S. Sharmila,
Headmistress & all members of the faculty, for their sense of
dedication & commitment and also to the energetic & well
performing students.
Over the last 2 years, the School has progressed in all
spheres, whether it is academics, sports, cultural activities, or
community initiatives. The School Alumni have been successful
beyond boundaries, whether it is in higher studies (Medical,
Engineering, Commerce etc), Fine Arts or in profession across
many geographic territories.
I seek the blessings of the Almighty and our revered Founder
Thiru. V.L. Ethiraj, to provide us the inner guidance and wish the
School higher levels of achievements and approbations in all its
endeavours.
Principal's Desk
I feel proud to be a part and to render my service in the prestigious institution which excels 25 years in education. It is a significant milestone in the growth chart of any institution. Starting modestly a fledgling school “Ethiraj ” as we know today is an institution that can boast of phenomenal growth and progress. As far as numbers go, the school strength is in impressive four figures (Around 1800 students, 67 Teaching and 10 Non-teaching Staff) What a giant leap; when one looks back, to the original strength of the school in 1994(35 students, 4 teaching and 4 non-teaching staff). It spreads fragrance in and around our thoughts and behavior. From time immemorial, books are the carriers of the heritage, cognizance and culture from generation to generation. Inculcating the habit of reading in our children is lighting up their brilliance to be successful in their walk. In the field of education, success and happiness go hand in hand. Ethiraj believes in preparing children to face the challenges ahead in life.
School Committee Member's Message
The story of founding Ethiraj Matric. Higher Secondary School at birth town of our Revered Founder is both unique and inspiring. We should be grateful to the stalwarts of our Trust who conceived the idea to establish our school in the year 1993 at Vellore. Now after years of perseverance and follow up, our school has attained a glorious stature.
It is the fundamental duty of every parent to provide education to his/her child for striving towards excellence in all spheres of life. When a private educational institution facilitates the progress of this social interest, it owes a duty to maintain a high standard of education. Accordingly, our eminent Trust established the school at Vellore as a fitting tribute to our Founder who is son of the soil. Thus our School founded at the birth place of Late V.L.Ethiraj with humble beginnings has now spread out as a huge banyan tree. This journey over twenty-five years is not an easy phase in the life of an institution. The challenge of the task was not easily surmountable. It is a matter of pride that during the past two and half decades our school made rapid strides in extending its strong service ethics following a policy
coupled with the focus on all round development and not just academics form the enduring legacies of this institution. This resulted in greater public recognition and considerable increase of student populace wishing to join the school. Over the years the ethos and foundation for an enduring legacy in education was firmly established and being carried forward. We can be rest assured that the key elements of founding vision have permeated the very fabric of Ethirajan way of Life.
Our school provides comfortable, spacious, airy rooms and create level field for students to hone their skills. We are grateful to Ethiraj College Trust for guiding the administration and providing the school all requirements whatever and whenever needed.
The greatest assets of our school are its committed, efficient, dedicated and passionate teachers. They reflect a strong interpersonal bond with students, loyalty with the management and complete identification with the school’s vision and philosophy of education. As an institution we believe that the students of today are the explorers of tomorrow. We are rightly proud that our school is run as an educational institution and not as a business befitting the ideals of its mentor. It has been our vision to make students excel through all round development with commitment, discipline and moral values. Our school aims at molding these young lives for the future of our country.
I congratulate our faculty, staff and students for their accomplishments all these years. I also thank the parents for their continued patronage. Let us all march together remembering that “the best way to predict future is to create it at present”.
It is my fervent wish that our school serves the need of students and fulfills the expectations of parents and attains height of glory true to the name and fame of our revered Founder.
A vibrant seed sown by a legal great and visionary has sprouted and grown into a healthy tree over 25 years, sheltering under its canopy over 1800 students, experiencing the benefits of a liberal education under the beneficial guidance of devoted teachers. The Ethiraj Matric. Hr. Sec. School during its eventful existence of 25 years has crossed many milestones and is today recognized as a school with Potential for Excellence. The devoted fraternity of teachers ably supported by an enlightened management have all contributed to the healthy growth of the institution. The achievements of the past lead to more challenges for the future and there are many goals to be reached by the fraternity of the staff and students of the institution. I am very happy to see the growth of the school with good name in all these years. This immense growth is possible only by the dedicated and efficient services of the past and present Headmistress and sincere staff and with prominent trustees. I wish the institution to grow in line with the vision of the founder.
Sri V.L. Ethiraj was known for his quality of women empowerment. He was keenly interested in improving and increasing women literacy right from the early years. I am sure among thousands of girls who had passed out of this institution there must be many leaders in society in some part of this world. My daughter and three nieces were students of this college and are very successful in life. I am sure every one of you will have a goal and you will reach it with the training given here and of course your hard work. Congratulations to the Trustees, Our Headmistress and the entire teachers and staff of this school. Their dedication is highly commendable and indeed you students must work sincerely towards your goal so that in your winter years (Old age) you will feel that you have not lived in vain.
